Meal-A-Month: Help Nourish Our Community
One of the most important and longest-running volunteer efforts at Tedford Housing is the Meal-A-Month program. Every night of the year, dedicated volunteers—including restaurants, churches, neighborhood groups, and individuals—provide a warm, home-cooked meal for guests at our adult shelter.
How it works:
Volunteers prepare a nutritious meal for 16 people.
Meals typically include a main course, vegetable and/or salad, bread or starch, and sometimes fruit, dessert, or condiments such as salad dressing or butter.
Meals should be delivered to the shelter with enough time to reheat or add finishing touches, ideally around 3:00 PM. Dinner is served at 5:00 PM
Currently, we have no Meal-a-Month openings. If interested in being made aware of one-time vacancies or future openings, please email Volunteer Coordinator Emily Bollman (emily@tedfordhousing.org) or fill out the form below.
Gardening & Yardwork
If you enjoy spending time outdoors, we could use your help with our gardens! Several of our supportive housing buildings have flower beds, and our family shelter features a vegetable garden. Seasonal opportunities (March–October) are available for volunteers to care for these gardens and help maintain our outdoor spaces, ensuring they remain welcoming for all.
Warm Thy Neighbor Volunteer Interviewer
Help individuals in need by becoming a volunteer interviewer for our Warm Thy Neighbor emergency fuel assistance program. This seasonal opportunity (November–March) allows you to directly support households facing heating emergencies by conducting brief interviews to assess their eligibility for assistance. Your efforts will help ensure that those in our community stay warm during the colder months.
Organize a Donation Drive
Looking for a meaningful way to give back? Consider organizing a donation drive for Tedford! Whether it's household goods, holiday gifts, or other essentials, your contributions can make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve. We welcome all kinds of drives, big or small, and are here to support you every step of the way. From brainstorming ideas to coordinating logistics, we’ll help you plan a successful drive that will directly benefit our guests and clients.
Other Ways to Lend a Hand
There are many ways you can contribute to Tedford Housing beyond direct service with our guests. Whether you’re interested in helping with administrative tasks, organizing materials, or lending a hand with maintenance projects like painting or assembling furniture, there’s something for everyone! Please fill out the form below with a bit about your background, interests, and how you’d like to get involved.
